You can't use furnaces in blacksmiths in generated villages unless you first mine them out and then place them again.

• Find village with blacksmith
• Place fuel and ore (or other smeltable item) in the furnace
  Expected result: Furnace starts burning fuel, item is smelted
  Actual result: Nothing happens.
