In the volume controls, magma cubes and slimes are grouped with Friendly Creatures rather than Hostile Creatures. Muting hostile creatures will not mute slime and magma cube sounds, but muting friendly creatures will.
The issue is not present in 1.8.9, but is present in 1.9 and later.
- Open a Creative world.
- Use spawn eggs to spawn a witch, a villager, a magma cube, and a slime.
- Ensure you can hear each of the mobs' sounds.
- Go into the Music & Sounds menu and mute hostile creatures. Exit the menu and you will be able to hear the villager, magma cube, and slime, but not the witch.
- Go back into the sound menu, unmute the hostile creatures, and mute the friendly creatures. Exit the menu and you will be able to hear the witch but not the magma cube, slime, or villager.
This is not a duplicate of
MC-66364. That bug refers to the sound of slime blocks, whereas this one involves live mob sounds.
