Working with visible nameplates in Minecraft, I noticed that certain things weren't dimmed when viewed through the name. Upon further inspection, I found that they were block entities, including player heads, chests, stained glass, and banners.
I used a command block to summon multiple armor stands with custom names at the same location to emphasize the effect.
