I'm using Minecraft 1.11.2 but this problem existed with 1.11

I can't remember when the problem started or how but I have a feeling it was after my MC upgraded to 1.11

When I hold the W key (which makes Steve move forward) on my laptop I expect Steve to start to run. When I release the W key I expect Steve to stop running. What actually happens is that when I release the W key Steve continues to run forward and there's nothing I can do to stop him.

I can direct him left and right, make him jump and crouch but he is locked in forward run as I do it.

My W key does not malfunction on any other program.

I haven't seen anyone else with this problem so I don't know if you recreating the circumstances would help.
