when i tried to put some items in a furnace it crashed my minecraft

what i wanted to do was casually smelt some pork at the start of a new survival world

but when i put the coal in the furnace my game crashed, i opened it up again and tried putting in the pork first, yet my game still crashed

how to trigger the bug
-load up the game in 16w 39A
-open a world in survival / creative
-place down a furnace ( anywhere )
-put either coal or a smeltable item in the furnace and crashes the game
