I thought that if I reach 0 hearts only 1 totem will be removed

I tried to use only one totem but when my hearts reached zero I saw the animation and the whole stack disappeared

Steps to Reproduce:
1. type command: /give @a minecraft:totem 1 64
2. reach 0 hearts
3. the totem will work but the whole stack will be removed as well
