I keep getting disconnected from a dedicated server on the LAN, with various messages like

Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: Badly compressed packet - size of 55 is below server threshold of 256

This is a completely vanilla 1.10.2 server with a vanilla client, running a survival game. Attached is a forced crash while connected to the server.

I didn't see error after hooking the computer up to a wired connection, so I tried changing out both the WiFi router and the WiFi USB dongle the computer was using, but I get the same problem.

I also tried deleting the %appdata%\.minecraft folder entirely but that did not help.
