I was playing in survival/normal mode and was building a tower using alternating polished granite and polished diorite with a single block of each. Granite was the first block at location -251 69 262 then diorite next but when I placed the 4th diorite block I got the normal block placement sound but the block just disappeared. That was my last polished diorite block so I switched to creative and got another then back to survival and it placed normally in that location. I mined that block and placed it back a couple more times and it still placed normally so I really have no clue why the initial one vanished on me like that. The seed was 1.10-pre1 (very creative I know but my first seed in a snapshot is usually the name just for kicks) and the settings were Game Mode Survival, Allow Cheats On, Bonus Chest On, and World Type Large Biomes. The location where I was placing the polished diorite block was -251 76 262.
I can replicate it just not consistently by mining the polished diorite block at -251 76 262 then placing it back. It does NOT appear to be the lag type issue where there is a delay in placement - the block simply disappears although the placement sound happens. I've only been able to replicate it twice in about a dozen attempts so it's definitely not consistent.
The screenshot gives a (hopefully) better idea of how I was constructing the tower when this happened. It was taken after retrieving the mined block and preparing to ascend to see if it placed properly (it did for about 6 more times so I gave up trying to replicate the incident a third time)
