I am playing with Idle (pause screen Frame rates) of 57 fps, and playing it drops down to 30-32 fps
in Minecraft I am playing with the following settings:
I am including all settings as for more accurate documentation, many settings do not effect the fps
Graphics: Fancy
Smooth Lighting: Maximum
3D anaglyph: off
GUI Scale: Normal
Brightness: Bright
Particles: All
Use VSync: off
Use VBO's: on
Render Distance: 32 chunks
Max Framerate: 60fps
Attack Indicator: Crosshair
Clouds: Fancy
Fullscreen: off
Mipmap Levels: 4
Entity Shadows: on

32 Chunks (Current Max): 48-52 fps
25 Chunks: 58-61 fps
20 Chunks: 64-76 fps
16 chunks (Pre 1.9 max): 98-111 fps
Playing:
32 Chunks: 34-54 fps
30 Chunks: 37-58 fps
25 Chunks: 46-50 fps
20 Chunks: 38- 50 fps
16 Chunks: 76-102 fps
In case the bug/error is biome / terrain feature specific:

This is all run with 5gb of ram, and neither the processor nor graphics card are going over 50 percent usage, with less than 30 percent of the allocated ram being used
