When updating large amounts of lava source blocks, Minecraft will crash. This can be easily replicated by creating a custom world type with the only biome being ocean, and having lava oceans enabled. Ocean monuments in this world will generate encased in water source blocks, and updating a block of lava in the upper section of the generated world will cause Minecraft to crash.
