Before 1.16, this did not occur.

As shown in the video attached, when thd sticky piston in the following mechanism retracts, any sand/gravel on top of the block directly attached to the sticky piston will break.

So for:

Sand2

Sand1

Sticky piston 

When the sticky piston retracts, Sand2 will break.

This only seems to occur for sticky pistons.
