Boats disappear when exiting them.  they only reappear when you leave the chunk.   Also, i had a friend once in a boat and he was on PC, and i saw him stuttering, then warp away.  couple moments later he warped back to the same spot. and he never moved.  Could explain the boat dissapearance.
