Lately my boats seemingly vanish when exiting them. They reappear if I exit the game and immediately return. 

Today, I exited one with a lama onboard. I could see a shadow and could still hear the lama, but they were unseen. I got the "ride" option while trying to locate, tried it to see if things would reappear, and instead suddenly appeared at a new location without the boat or lama.
